The Mental Health Association of Erie County Foundation, Inc.:
Was formed and incorporated in 1991 as the fundraising arm of the Mental Health Association Board of Directors.
The MHA Foundation Board inaugurated an Endowment Program – Touching Lives Today To Bring a Better Tomorrow - to help build a secure income resource for the MHA. The goal is to raise one million dollars that will give the MHA a secure resource of income and stabilize its financial future.
This Endowment Program will broaden the MHA funding base and make the MHA less dependent on government funding, thus strengthening our independent stance.
As a result, the Foundation Board has inaugurated a Benefactor Society Membership. The qualifications for membership include an accumulated donation of $1000 gift, with an annual gift of $250 or more to maintain membership status.
Benefactor Society Gift Suggestions Cash Donation - simple and direct
Capital Loss - If your securities are worth less now than when purchased, you can consider selling them and contribute the proceeds to the MHA. This transaction will entitle you to take a capital loss on your current tax return - a tax break that is not available if you directly donated the stock to MHA.
Real Estate - If you own Real Estate for more than one year and your property is producing little or no income, it may be a tax-smart gift. Your property can be turned into a new income flow through a charitable gift plan such as a charitable remainder trust.
Insurance Donation - Life insurance policies can be an effective way to make a gift.
Include MHA in your will - By giving us an unrestricted, specific bequest, you would help provide a secure future for the MHA especially in times of diminishing public support. For example, please consider the following clause in your will:
The Mental Health Association of Erie County Foundation, Inc. is to receive the sum of $ (indicate specific amount) or The Mental Health Association of Erie County Foundation Inc., is to receive % (indicate percent) of my net residuary estate after the payment of all my debts and taxes.
There are several other gift options available through a bequest. A Memorial Endowment is another option consisting of a large gift to memorialize a family member, relative, friend or yourself.
